HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE?

A lady some years ago fell terribly ill. She was in between life and death. She was rushed to the Hospital at about three o’clock in the morning. She could hardly breathe and it seemed life was being snuffed out of her. On getting to the Doctor, she was asked to be admitted and the Nurse was to place her on the bed and then administer drips on her. The lady had hardly sat down on the bed when the Nurse shouted on her to be fast. As the patient gasped for breathe, she shouted even harder asking her to better explain the way she was feeling so that she could be transferred to the teaching hospital. You know what? The Nurse constituted more sickness for the patient! It was emotional pain. There was no simple display or show of love even if it had to be faked! Well, that Patient was ME! However that was not just my first experience with unpleasant nurses. Did I hear you say it can’t happen in Private Hospitals? I’ve had experience on both sides. My question is this… What are the characteristics of Nurses? Are they not meant to be warm and caring? Is this attitude just peculiar to Nigerian Nurses? Is it that they are not being paid well or they were forced into their profession? What on earth could be their reason for constituting a nuisance in the system? You know why I’m so passionate about this issue and had to take a step forward to write on it? MANY innocent souls have died because of the careless attitude and harshness of some Nurses! I even heard the story of a Nurse who was on afternoon shift and was already closing up to hand over for the person on the night shift. Few minutes into packing her bags, there was an emergency and a Man was rushed into the Hospital who was bleeding seriously: aftermath of a ghastly motor accident. She was so much in a hurry that all pleas to take in the Man’s record to be attended to, fell on deaf ears. She told them she had to go home to prepare her Husbands meal and they should exercise patience for the next Nurse that was going to take over from her who was not yet around. As for the Doctor on duty, I don’t know anything about him or her. To cut the long story short, this Nurse got home and the Husband was not yet back. It was quite un-usual. It was her husband that was rushed to the same Hospital! The Man died! She was even too much in a hurry to look at his face! Now how many people have lost their lives in the hands of cruel and hard hearted nurses? Nurses that will never be patient with a woman in labour pains? Nurses that will hiss and shout on their patients? Have you ever been involved in these cold attitude of Nurses? What can actually be done? PLEASE, share with me…
